Sweet photos Will. I rode an RC only once but loved it. Then again I am a big Twin fan, love to have one myself one day.

Dave...i might not want to do engine work to it this time around but any other bolt on performance update would be great. stuff like, airbox, ram air, maybe HRC harness and ECU, even lighter clutch hubs and goodies like those that will spin the motor a little faster.
this year i'm looking into getting it lighter and quicker, next year...we'll make it go faster |

Simply switching to an HRC ECU isn't worth it in my opinion. The harness would be good, drop a little bit of weight, but link it up with something serious. I ran a Yoshimura standalone EMS on mine and had it mapped from the ground up. I was able to eradicate the soft rev limiter, and set the hard one at whatever I wanted. I pushed it to 11,200 (1000 over stock) and it took it no problem. I was able to make 140whp without even opening up the motor.
If you want drastic change in the handling, get some wheels on that thing. I put cast mag Marchesini's on my SP2 and it was the single best mod I did to the thing. With my suspension dialed in I couldn't make the bike run wide on the power if I tried. It tipped in slightly stiffer than a new 600, was rock solid at full bank, and changed direction effortlessly over stock. It was handling Nirvana. |

thank you for the advice JD, right now i'm working on the front and rear suspension as well as wheels before the year gets started. I've not done anything to performance, not even filters or PCIII. I like to do one modification at the time (and im broke) so i can tell if there was any good or bad in adding so i could then remove if unhappy.
and like you say, even stock with the fork oil from 03 and the tired rear shock from riding on the street with passengers (previous owners) and the bike handled like a dream, i mean, is not lighning fast on straightaways but it is super easy where it counts, late braking, line changing and adjusting, on the power while banked and best of all, ground clearance...once the side stand is removed |

No problem Metal that's what we're all here for!
In the suspension, spend your money on the rear end first. A good shock and link will give you the most bang for the buck. I ran a Penske triple with a Dan Kyle link and 550lb spring (I'm 180ish with gear on). All I did to the front end was RaceTech 1.0kg springs and gold valves in the OEM SP2 forks. It was all I needed, the combo was rock solid. I've ridden bikes with full Ohlins setups and they're nice but almost too smooth if you know what I mean. The biggest pro of the RC is how much you can feel through the chassis and I found the Ohlins setups to be deceiving. I like to feel the surface a bit more. That being said, because my bike was completely dialed in for my weight - I was faster. Bling isn't everything as my bike proved, but setup is. |
